I just read a great post by Mariana Wagner entitled 34 Reasons Why I love Real Estate. I had to share it because I’ve had many of the same thoughts recently and it’s a fantastic look at how true real estate professionals feel about their lives, businesses, and each other.
It’s also sort of funny how much we all have in common. In reason #16 Mariana mentions her love of teaching and how she has found ways to incorporate that into her business. I spent lots of years teaching before I became a Realtor and I still put those skills to use every day. Several members of my team also come from teaching/training backgrounds and another Realtor on Mariana’s post commented that she too was a former teacher and found that lots of teachers are successful in real estate.
So WHY IS THAT??
Simply put, we are teachers. It is my job to educate my clients so the better I am at educating them the better I am at my job! Perfect example, today I went out looking with first-time buyers I have been working with and they fell in love with a bank-owned, single family in Malden. The listing states the following:
The property is being sold as-is, Purchase and Sale and addendum must be signed within 48 hours of acceptance with absolutely no changes allowed.
They had no idea what any of that meant. It is my job to educate them, to break it down into plain English, to make sure all of their questions get answered, to FIND the answer and report back to them if I don’t know it myself and to keep doing that every step of the way. So we looked at houses for about 30 minutes today and then spent the next 2 hours doing a little foreclosure Q&A over coffee. America is not the only thing that runs on Dunkin! We covered everything from “what is winterizing” to how we would structure an offer on a property that already had multiple offers. Now they are armed with the info they need to make an educated decision. Ahh…job satisfaction.
Anyway, check out Mariana’s 34 reasons why she loves real estate. It’s good stuff.
