I was recently asked by the kind folks at Diamond Candles if I would be interested in writing a blog review of one of their candles. In case you don’t know, Diamond Candles are all natural soy candles and each contains a surprise ring valued between $10 and $5,000. I enthusiastically agreed. Not only did they send me a free candle to review, but they offered another candle as a free giveaway to one of my lucky readers! How generous and exciting is that?
I must admit it was tough to select just one candle for my review because the scents all sounded so delicious. When I have a hard time deciding between many good choices I narrow my favorites to three and go from there. The top contenders were Miami Beach, Hawaiian Coconut and Orange Vanilla scents. Ultimately, I chose the Hawaiian Coconut.
My candle arrived quickly and safely, thanks in part to the recyclable, compostable, biodegradable packing that Diamond Candle uses. I must say, I am pretty impressed with the earth friendly efforts of this Durham, NC based company.
The Hawaiian Coconut scented candle did not disappoint. A yummy coconut fragrance filled my home and transported me to a faraway island. There was nothing I could do at this point besides pour a drink, kick back, and enjoy my trip to relaxation town. This review was a tough assignment for this blogger, I know.
I burned my fragrant candle for about 14 hours over the course of two days before I was able to dig out the ring pouch. It was pretty exciting to pull the gold foil pouch out of the warm candle wax. I may have even broken out into song and dance, ‘First I lit it, now I get to put a ring on it, wha-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh’.
I peeled back the gold foil to find my ring safe and clean inside a little plastic bag. I received this lovely canary yellow heart shaped stone ring.
So what is my ring worth? According to the Diamond Candle website:
- If the ring has ’14k’ or similar information imprinted on the inside of the band than you have a ring that is worth $100+. We advise that you take it to a jeweler to get a verbal estimate to see if it is worth $100’s or $1,000’s.
- If the ring has ‘Thailand’ or something similar imprinted on the inside of the band it is most likely worth $100 or less.
- Unmarked rings are likely to be toward the $10 range but could be valued up to $100.
After admiring my pretty new ring I quickly checked the inside band and found it unmarked. It may not be “real”, but the surprise ring made me really happy and that is all that matters in the end. I did some poking around online and found that Diamond Candles has a very active community and part of the fun is sharing your own buried treasure with others via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram.
A Diamond Candle would make a fantastic holiday centerpiece or gift. Or simply use one to set the mood for a little relaxation for yourself amidst all the holiday shopping, visiting, and general hustle and bustle that seems to stress so many of us out each year.
