When I was growing up, there existed a rare and beautiful creature that showed up during one short and sacred time of year. Of course, I’m talking about marshmallow Peeps at Easter. In my experience, when it comes to Peeps, you either love ’em or you hate ’em. On this blog, I’m the only lover, and every year my pitch to feature the marshmallow Peep in all its glory has fallen to the floor with a heavy thud. It’s similar to the kind of thud you feel in your stomach after eating an entire package of, well, Peeps. But enough about me….
These little chicks and bunnies are no joke, in fact they have built an empire over the last 60+ years. No longer just chicks and bunnies during Easter, you can chill with your Peeps all year round in a wide variety of flavors, in recipes, as adult beverages, on your clothing, in your local art exhibition, or as a featured contest in a national newspaper, and the list goes on. Actually, the list is about to begin so get ready for the MyUntangled List of Awesome Peeps-Related Things That Prove They Rule the World, List!
Peeps Booze
Yes, it seems pretty sacrilegious to turn a childhood Easter holiday candy into an adult beverage recipe…but that’s exactly the kind of thing we’re raising our glasses to! How is this combination possible, you ask? Feast your eyes on The Blue Bunny Cocktail from The Homespun Hydrangea.
Or my personal favorite, the Peep-Infused Vodka from Baking Bites.
Peeps Recipes
While it’s still crazy to me, people all over planet Pinterest are truly kicking it up a Peep and making an array of edibles with Peeps. This drool-worthy Peeps Skillet Dip from Brit + Co looks too pretty to eat…but I will!
Ditto for this really beautiful Peeps Sunflower Cake from Betty Crocker. No flower can last forever, after all.
Peeps Around the House
Still not convinced Peeps rule the world? Maybe you need some time at home to meditate on it a bit. You could light this Peeps Marshmallow Chicks candle from Yankee Candle.
Or how about taking a short DIY arts and crafts break to crank out this super cute Easter Centerpiece from Two Sisters Crafting?
Pet Peeps
I don’t recall Fifi and Fluffy getting this much swag in the past, but I was greeted with this Peepnificent display of Peeps toys for dogs and cats when I recently visited my local PetSmart.
I can tell you for sure that these toys are pup-approved. Just peep out Ruby’s girlfriend, whose name happens to be Bunny, as she rocks out an Instapeep.
Peeps as Fine Art
And then there was the diorama. I have fellow MyUntangled blogger, Kat, to thank for turning me on to the Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest. 2016 marked the contest’s 10th year! Despite being one of the most well-known contests, there are so many others in existence that the official Peeps website maintains a list. This whole strange and beautiful form of Peeptistic expression has truly changed my life forever.
There are so many amazingly creative pieces out there that I could start listing them now through next Easter. But one of my all-time faves is from the 2011 Washington Post contest. A salute to my favorite show growing up with some Peepsonality.
And finally, a 2015 Washington Post finalist, and possibly my favorite…this.
