A taste of the Riviera, this cocktail features citrus, mint, and gin. It was a specialty of Gerald Murphy.

- 1-2 sprigs mint torn into pieces
- 1½ oz gin
- ½ oz grapefruit juice
- ½ oz fresh lime juice freshly squeezed
- 1 tsp simple syrup
- sugar for rim of glass, if desired
Tear mint and place in cocktail shaker.
Add gin to shaker and let stand for 1-2 minutes.
Add grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.
Shake with ice until cold.
Serve in a glass rimmed with sugar and with a sprig of mint for garnish.
I followed Gerald Murphy's instructions very closely. If you like your drinks tart, you can omit the simple syrup. It is very easy to make simple syrup. You simply boil one part sugar in two parts water until the sugar dissolves. Cool the mixture and then add to cocktails, iced tea, or iced coffee.
