Almond Valentine Spritz Cookies

This classic spritz cookie is an easy way to make a special holiday treat. The cookies are buttery with just a hint of almond. Make some for your sweetie for Valentine's Day!

Servings:  6 dozen


  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • red food coloring
  • red decorating sugar optional


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Cream butter and sugar.
  4. Beat in egg and almond extract.
  5. Gradually blend in dry ingredients.
  6. Tint to desired color with food coloring.
  7. Following directions for the cookie press, form cookies on cookie sheets. (These cookies will not spread much and can be placed fairly close together.)
  8. Decorate tops of cookies with colored sugar if using.
  9. Bake for 8-11 minutes or until just set. (These taste better if slightly underdone.)
